AR Tetrobol Obv: Two cocks facing on a circular shield. Rev: Tetraskeles surrounded by "Teththivei" (roughly) legend in retrograde, all within dotted square border; incuse. Attribution: SNG Cop. -, Morkholm/Zahle -; Traite -; Falgera - Provenance: ex. Colosseum 3 (lot#38), 8.26.08 Weight: 1.90 gm. (Lycian heavy weight standard) Maximal Diameter: 17 mm. Axis: 10 Notes: Antiphellos mint (?) attribution is possible, but this is based upon an attribution given by the Boston MFA on a similar piece from this Dynast. GK290

This is a really neat coin! I really like the rough look of the Lycian Dynastic coins!

Thanks. Yeah, the Dynastic celators weren't too concerned about regular flans. Many of the coins from this region have irregular, as well as uneven thickness, flans. Often they are double-struck or over-struck. I haven't come across a good explanation for the irregularity in coinage production or the weight standards (i.e., 3 standards; heavy, medium, light). The characteristics are described in good detail, but the reasoning behind the characteristics is unclear.
