Very nice, good acquisition I think. Earliest Roman coins if I recall? Alex

Thanks, Alex. It's from the first series of struck Republican bronzes, which were struck on very thick planchets, and which is what accounts for the usual poor strikes and low relief.

What a beautiful early Roman bronze; great style, strike, patina; it has everything one could desire on such a coin!

I just picked up the coin today, and while it looks great, I found out that it is a sextans, not a quadrans, and only weighs 25 grams. Apparently it was never issued as a quadrans. Sorry for the confusion. I've corrected the attribution. At least it fits in my trays more easily now!
