Double decadrachm circa 400, AV 5.79 g. ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΟΝ Head of goddess l., hair elaborately waved and caught up behind in star-ornamented sphendone, wearing necklace, bar and triple-pendant earring; behind the head, eight-rayed star. Rev. Naked young Heracles kneeling r. on rocky ground, head to front, strangling the Nemean lion with both arms. Dewing 926 (these dies). D. Bérend, Le Monnayage d’or de Syracuse sous Denys I, 38.
Very rare. Struck in very high relief and extremely fine

Wow, you got it.
Do you want to have a hieron-like competition to find your most expensive coin. It's easy now.
Beautiful portrait with such fine details. I look at the auction catalog and can't imagine all that detail engraved on that surface.
And of course that great reverse. Very Paeonian. Love it. Even the face on Hercules is so well done.
A classic work of art.
That safety deposit box must be getting alot of use.

Saints preserve us!! That's a rare auld rare coin I see. Wow, really beautiful. Congratulations to you. Hello everyone, by the way. I've just joined the site today. I'm a VERY new collector but am thoroughly enjoying wading into this fascinating world. My own collection is pretty small and doesn't contain anything very rare or valuable. I'm still trying to identify some of the dirty little rusted bits of metal I keep finding around the place. Ancient coins are extremely hard to come by anywhere in Ireland. I'm having fun discovering it all though.
Anyway, again, wonderful coin
