From Isle of Wight Hoard...
Quote:
Shortly after 10am, 19 October 2005, a hoard of 967 silver staters of the Durotriges was discovered near Brighstone, Isle of Wight, only two miles from where another iron age treasure hoard had been found in March 2004.

The hoard was found by Albert Snell, 74, a retired postman, and 15 other members of the Isle of Wight Detecting Club, and immediately reported to archaeologist Frank Basford who says: “It is an important significant find, the largest hoard of its kind ever found on the Isle of Wight, and could have been some sort of community savings."

The vast majority of the coins in the hoard were Cranborne Chase silver staters (VA 1235-1), early issues of fine silver and good weight. There were also some Spread Tail silver staters (VA 1238), which are a much rarer type. After the coins had been examined, recorded and photographed at the British Museum they were returned to the finders and landowner.
