I wondered if anyone in the Group had come across a medal of similar
form to this type.
It is clearly a fantasy piece which I suspect is of Italian origin (note
the spelling of Hannibal) but of what period I do not know except the
hair styles seem to reflect those of the 15th Century.
The bust of Scipio is much more clearly defined than Hannibal's
which strangely mirrors the superiority of one over the other - as
indeed was reflected in actuality as Scipio defeated Hannibal.
I have seen nothing similar since I acquired this medal in a junk
shop in the early 70's. So if anyone has any additional information or
who knows of similar examples please let me know.
