R: SIGNIS RECEPTIS above and below S.P.Q.R. around shield inscribed CL.V.(Clypeus Virtutis; this golden shield of valor was decreed to Augustus in 27 B.C. and was deposited in the Curia Julia), Roman eagle on r. and standard on l. This refers to the restoration of the Roman standards lost by Crassus in 53 B.C., by L. Decidius Saxa in Syria in 40 B.C. and by Mark Antony in 36 B.C. to the Parthians.
