North African coastline and surrounding regions as rendered in copper-plate engraving during the late 18th century by Rigobert Bonne.
Dimensions: 15" x 10" with one fold (as issued).
Note: Rigobert Bonne (1729-1795) - Cartographer for "Atlas de toutes les parties connues du globe terrestre" by Guillaume Thomas Francois Raynal (1713-1796). Published by J.L. Pellet, 1780 in Geneva.
"Atlas, de Toutes..." was officially authored by Guillaume Thomas Francois Raynal, a dismissed Parisian priest who wrote several controversial works supporting the American colonies in their right to revolt and withhold taxes. Rigobert Bonne, a Royal Hydrographer known best for his marine charts, created the copper engravings found in the work. However, using his privileged royal connections he was able to improve on land maps for other works, which were, up to that time, concentrated mostly on rivers.
