Comet Denarius

In 17 BC a comet appeared in the heavens over Rome which was accepted to be a manifestation of the divine soul of Julius Caesar heralding a new age of peace and prosperity. The reverse of this denarius of Augustus (RIC 38b) is a propagandized depiction of the Comet (the burning tail uppermost) streaking across the sky. Augustus used this event to emphasize his familial association with the deified Julius.
