![]() A friend shared this on Facebook. It looks like a Roman Imperatorial denarius. I cannot match the inscription or find a match describing the reverse. The bust looks a lot like Commodus but I could not find a match for him either. Could be an ancient imitative? Any help with the ID is appreciated. Thank you.

Not Commodus, but his father Marcus Aurelius as Caesar under Antninus Pius.
Looks like: Marcus Aurelius, as Caesar, AR Denarius. 152-153 AD. Obverse: AVRELIVS CAE-SAR AVG PII FIL, bare head right Reverse: TR POT VII COS II, Genius Exercitus or Virtus standing left, sacrificing out of patera over lighted altar and holding legionary eagle. RIC 458: BMCRE 804 (Pius); RSC 661 Gary |
