Towns and Times of Philosophers
When I actively collected, I was inspired by the Carl Sagan Cosmos episode "Backbone of the Night" to acquire coins from the lifetimes of philosophers. I had about 50 names linked to coins, from Thales of Miletus to Hypatia of Alexandria.
Among them was this: Syrakusa 474-450 BCE. AR Litra. obv: Artemis Arethusa / rev: Cuttlefish Alfoeldi 136 "Obol"; Beohringer 467 or 451; 0.65 grams |
