Lax Security In Egypt's museums
There's a recent article in the Dever Post and other papers by Hadeel Al-Shalchi about poor security in Egypt's museums; alarm and camera systems that don't work and the recent theft of a Van Gogh painting. It's sad that nations don't want looting and the export of their ancient coins and antiquities, but they don't want to fund more money to protect what they already have. I wish more nations would adopt England's treasure law. This article in my local paper is titled "Security lax in Egypt's museums." If you want to read the article you can do a Google search. Sorry I don't know how to create a link to it!

Here is one link to the story:
http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...ing-theft.html It makes you wonder what the real motives are for import restrictions when they don't invest in protecting their own museums. Paul |

The Van Gogh was no doubt returned to France by a conscientious Egyptian who understands "cultural patrimony".
