Double Ugly
DOUBLE UGLY
I have learned many things from this web site. I still hope to be further educated. What is wrong with this coin? Please be as specific as possible. http://cgi.ebay.com:80/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120476572863&ssPageNam e=ADME:B:SS:US:1123 Ron Kelley |

Ron,
Do you mean, what is "wrong" with the coin itself (question of fabric, design, etc.) or are you asking why the label "Antichrist" is used of this Antiochos IV piece? I own a similar issue. Forgive me--I may be answering a question you are not asking when I mention that this Antiochos is the infamous figure of Daniel's prophecies, the one who prefigures in his attrocities against the Jews of his day similar attrocities to be committed by the final world dictator--"Antichrist"--spoken of by John in the New testament book of Revelation. Then again, you may be asking something quite different from this... Dave |

Dave,
Thanks, that is some very interesting history. I was refering to the coin itself: It certainly does not appear to be anything like the 12 Antiochos IV coins I have in my collection. I am wondering if the coin is cast. Ron Kelley |

Hi Ron
The drachm doesn't have the grace you might expect of an Antiochus issue. I wouldn't buy it I think. Is it cast? Can't tell but looks like it could be a fouree from the edge picture, but hard to tell. So maybe an ancient (or moden) conterfeit? Brgds Alex
