Question Will anyone be at the Chicago Intl Coin Fair?

I was wondering if anyone - dealers, collectors, etc. will be at the Chicago International Coin Fair, on Saturday May 1? I was thinking about attending, and thought it would be fun to put faces with the people that I deal with.

I'll attend, as will many of the dealers that visit here. It will be a good show, and well worth your time!

Since there seems to be several, maybe we could locate each other at booth - just a matter of which one and where it is. From the sounds there may be 4 or so, not counting the dealers.

I'll be there

I'm planning on popping in for a while to check out the show too... I always go and buy about a hundred bucks worth. It's fun to bargain hunt, but gut wrenching sometimes since they always have such beautiful pieces that would be within reach if I just spent more.

This year I am going to be looking for a Claudius II with the VICTORIAE GOTHIC reverse

I'll be there and although I won't have a table, I'll be bringing some inventory with me. I'm staying at the hotel and will be there all four days. Here is the list of dealers who will have tables:

I'll wear something Chicago Bears or bodybuilding related so folks will be able to find me to chat if desired.

See ya there!

Chicago show

You mean you can bring stuff to offer to dealers that have a table even if you don't have one yourself? I didn't know that.

Of course, I don't think I have anything too special that a dealer would want. Most of my stuff is all 70 bucks and under.

Sure you can. That's how dealers get new stuff to sell. They have to buy it from someone. I have heard of dealers who set up tables at shows and don't bring anything at all to sell and simply it set up to buy! It won't be like that at CICF, but you can certainly bring along coins to see if any of the dealers are interested. If you do bring coins to offer to dealers, do have a price in mind that you would like. It's difficult for dealers (well, for me anyway) when folks have coins they would like me to buy but don't have an idea what they would like for them.

Just because your coins are $70 and under avg. doesn't mean there isn't necessarily a buyer for them. Look at how many coins I have in my store that are $25 and less. Not all dealers can afford to carry $500+ Greek silver and stuff.

See you at the show,

The Coin Fair is just over 2 weeks away, Does anyone have a suggestion as a "meeting" point? It would be nice to find some of the people, but most of us have not met, and may be comming from several directions. I would suggest lunch or an early supper.

Howdy Bruce (and everyone else),

As fate would have it, I won't be at the show this year. I have to be at one of our JCI plants in North Carolina the entire week and weekend of the show doing software post-implementation support. It's the first CICF I will miss since I started collecting in 1999

Have a great show!!

Bruce,

Believe me, I'm not at all happy about it and would much rather be at the show than working on software support. Ah well - I'll be there next year

Take care and remember to photograph all of the wonderful coins you find in the pick bins to share with the group!
