Many of you must have attended to coin shows, in the US, UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Spain, etc ...
Which fairs do you prefer? for what reasons?
Here is my input (focused on ancient Roman):
- France/Paris, salon SNENNP (La Bourse):
*size: average
*timeframe: 1 day only
*organization: few chairs, at least one lamp per table to view the coins correctly
*material offered: all important dealers from France attend, with some foreigners; not a vast amount of important coins but always something interesting to buy. No archeological items (forbidden).
- France/others towns
*size: small, mainly medium size dealers
*timeframe: 1 day only
*organization: minimum; no lamp to view the coins
*material offered: no really important coins but some good bargain to be made from some small dealers, sometimes. A few archeological items
- Germany/Munich (Numismata)
*size: huge, impressive
*timeframe: 3 days
*organization:
*material offered: surprisingly compared to the size of the fair, not so interesting, or overpriced; important transactions happen to occur outside the fair (in hotels where dealers stay), especially with sellers from Bulgaria. Archeological items, sometimes important (coming from the Balkans, so provincial style).
- UK/London (Hotel xxx)
*size: average (scale as Paris SNENNP)
*timeframe: 2 or 3 days
*organization: some nice features like salons, where the collectors can be welcomed in excellent conditions (Spink ...)
*material offered: looks like Paris; a lot of archeological items
To be continued! Come on, folks
