Hello,
I`ve been reading about Greek, Roman and Byzantine fake coins in this section and also from other websites. It seems that a lot of fake are " popular" coin type, often in precious metals( silver, gold) but also in Bronze( Byzantine).
My question is the following: Is there any reports of fake coins for Late Byzantine AE Trachy( Micheal VIII- Andronicus III)?? And if any such report- book exists where could I find some information about it?

I don`t recall seeing any litterature on this subject. For late Byzantine coin collector, this could be very interesting. But maybe these coins which are not visually appealing( sometimes so badly struck!)are not prone to be reproduce by modern "artists".....

Thanks again for all the info that all of you are providing on this discussion board! It`s great :)

Hello Francois,

I recently read about fake Byzantine trachy documented by a collector. I think it may have been Ross Glanfield. I will have to dig around to see if I can find the information and images.

Dear Francois,

Yes, Ross's site is excellent fot the late Byzantine collector and I think he is the one who spoke about the trachy fakes, but I just can't seem to find my notes about them. I have to keep looking.
