The more I look at photos of prutahs, esp. of the Roman Procurators (I have never held any except for one Porcius Festus), the more it seems to me that many are in a condition where a cement-like substance has more or less bonded to the metal. Looking at the 1st example coin below of Pilate, one can see the good metal with a nice black patina peeking through this encrustation. Is it at all possible to remove this brown cement-like substance? I have seen certain prutahs which appear to have been so cleaned (see 2nd photo).
